Description:

This version of the QRE1113 breakout board has a digital output that uses a capacitor discharge circuit to measure the amount of reflection. This tiny board is ideal for line sensing when only digital I/O is available, and can be used in both 3.3V and 5V systems. The evaluation board QRE1113 IR reflectivity sensor consists of two parts - an IR-emitting LED and an IR-sensitive phototransistor. The IR LED inside the sensor lights up when you supply power to the VCC and GND pins  . A 100Ω resistor is onboard and placed in series with the LED to limit the current. The output of the phototransistor is connected to a 10nF capacitor. The faster the capacitor is discharged, the more reflective the surface will be. These sensors are widely used in production line tracking robots. White surfaces reflect more light than black surfaces, so the capacitor discharges faster when pointed at a white surface than when pointed at a black surface. Both the power input and output pins are brought out to 3-pin, 0.1" pitch header sockets. The board also has a mounting hole if you want to screw it onto the board.
